I saw Dandy Lion at a PetSmart adoption event on a Sunday in 2012. I had gone to pick up treats for Roo, my puggle (who has since passed at nearly 17). My  black lab, Magic, had passed not long before that, but we weren't ready.  I walked past Dandy Lion, got Roo's treats, and as I left the store, Dandy Lion dragged his handler over to me. "I'm sorry, I can't take you home," I told him  ... .

 Three days later, I started the adoption process.  Roo and Dandy Lion bonded immediately. And Dandy Lion lived up to his silly name. I had to put up a 6-ft. fence, because he could leap the 4-ft. chain link fence like a gazelle. I was crazy the lady in pajamas running down the street much to dismay of neighbors and early commuters!

Dandy Lion was a silly boy. He jumped fences and ate everything from sofa cushion stuffing to metal. Against all  initial odds, Dandy Lion became a Certified Canine Citizen. But God calls when He calls, and it was time to let him go over the Rainbow Bridge in March 2024. He was my boon companion for nearly 13 years. And if I hadn't taken that fireplace photo .. .
